EDGEWATER, Colo. (CBS4) – One of the guns stolen during burglaries at gun stores in Littleton last month was used in a shooting involving a young teenager.

Officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say as many as 60 guns were stolen in two separate burglaries the week of June 20.

The shooting took place at an apartment in Edgewater earlier this month, and it left a 13-year-old injured. The boy was apparently shot accidentally by friends, who initially lied to police about the circumstances. They said the shooting happened in a street robbery.

The truth of what actually happened has now given investigators clues in a larger investigation.

Federal authorities traced the gun found in the apartment where the shooting happened to the Littleton burglaries using its serial number.

Both burglaries are part of a joint investigation, though authorities have not said they are connected. No suspects have been identified in either instance.

Investigators have not revealed if the gun the boys obtained was purchased off the black market or if they got it another way.

The name of the teen who was shot hasn’t been released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
