FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – The vet school at Colorado State University is offering a credit to horse owners and breeders if they don’t sue after a fire, according to a new report.
A fire last summer at the Foothills Campus heavily damaged the school’s equine reproduction lab.
University officials told the Coloradoan newspaper that the owners and breeders were told they needed to have their own insurance on frozen sperm, eggs and embryos and that the university was merely storing the material for them.
That fire caused at least $12 million dollars in damage to the lab. The value of the lost genetic material isn’t known.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was not been able to figure out the cause of the fire and closed their investigation.
No one was hurt in the fire.
