ERIE, Colo. (CBS4) – More than a dozen agents with the FBI and ATF, along with Erie police, descended on an Erie home on Thursday, but the U.S. Department of Homeland Security wouldn’t elaborate why it was there.
The homeowner, who is out of town on vacation, told CBS4 Thursday evening he doesn’t know why the agents were in his home.
“I don’t know what I did to provoke them,” Rick Song said, adding that they were “scary agencies” involved.
He hasn’t been charged.
Agents with diplomatic security services and Immigration and Customs Enforcement were involved. A bomb disposal unit was also on the scene. It was unclear what investigators were looking for. Some agents carried visible weapons.
Song is a Chinese citizen who moved to Erie from California several years ago.
The case, CBS4 learned, is under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The house is located on Piper Drive near the airport.
“Not really sure what is happening. It is 9/11, you wonder if we are overreacting to something or if there is some threat here. Obviously they were searching for something,” neighbor Larry Earnshaw said.
Neighbor Michelle Bratton said she saw approximately 20 cars — marked and unmarked — barricading portions of the street.
